2G and 2.5G Networks

Planning of 2G and 2.5G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) networks

Prediction of max. achievable data rate  (downlink)

Figure: max. achievable data rate (in downlink)
EDGE uses 9 different MCS (modulation and coding schemes) with individual SNIR targets, The same applies to GPRS with 4 different CS (coding schemes).
In the planning process it is interesting to see which modulation and coding schemes are available at the different locations.

WinProp analyzes all outputs for each MCS (SNIR, required MS and BS Tx power,...) and determines the highest data rate which can be achieved at all possible locations in the coverage area. For the user this is very important to get an impression where he can expect high and low data rates.
