3G Monte Carlo Simulations

Fast and accurate simulations for 3G Network Planning

Introduction

AWE offers also a simulation module based on the well known Monte Carlo approach. Compared to the full dynamic simulations the Monte Carlo approach is much faster, thus enabling the simulation of much larger areas. Compared to the static/analytic approach the Monte Carlo simulation tool provides more detailed outputs and gives a better understanding of the network behavior.

Basic Simulation Principles

Generation of many discrete mobile terminal distributions and evaluation the network performance in a statistical manner:

  • The Monte Carlo (MC) method consists in repeating an experience many times with different randomly determined data in order to draw statistical conclusions
  • In our case the repeated experience is called a snapshot (a set of Mobile Stations in the network with random position)
  • The results given by a high number of snapshots are considered to be representative for all the possible states of the network
  • The MC simulator allows fast capacity evaluation of a network

Propagation Models

The important interaction between neighboring cells in terms of interference demands for advanced propagation models depending on the current environment. We provide a variety of propagation models for different scenarios and all these models interact with he network planning module.
