WinProp Plug-in for iBwave Design

Wave Propagation and Network Planning

Introduction

iBwave Design (previously called RF-vu) is an in-building wireless software that automates the design process. It goes beyond predicting network coverage by providing one software tool to perform and create advanced RF calculations, project documentation, real-time linked schematic diagrams and floor plans with antenna contours and automated reports.

A comparison of the most requested features of both software tools, iBwave Design and AWE's WinProp, is available to help customers with their decision to use either iBwave Design or WinProp. The propagation engine of iBwave Design is identical to the propagation engine of WinProp. Both engines are developed by AWE Communications.

Till 2010, more than 200 customers of iBwave selected the propagation plug-in of AWE Communications to extend the features of their iBwave Design.

Integration

The Propagation Module is an add-on to iBwave Design, the in-building wireless network planning software. This module factors in all obstacles inherent to in-building wireless environments. The add-on extends the versatility and accuracy of iBwave Design layout plans with advanced propagation models built into one common design interface. Engineers can be "prediction proficient" within hours.

The Optimization Module is an add-on module to iBwave Design that takes in-building design to the next level by bridging the gap between indoor and outdoor wireless networks to fully leverage and integrate indoor designs with outdoor signals and interference. It is used in combination with the Propagation Module.

Both modules are developed by AWE Communications.

Features

The benefits of the integration of AWE's propagation models into iBwave Design:

  • Reduce Costly Site Surveys: Increase ROI through accurate propagation results from antennas and radiating cables.

  • Multi-Technology View: Simultaneously compare propagation behaviors between different technologies and frequency bands.

  • Update Power Instantly: Automatically visualize and predict antenna footprints in real-time as power updates are made.

  • Accuracy and Speed: Produce accurate prediction results faster than Ray Tracing models using Dominant Path Modeling.

  • Work Efficiently: Avoid project cost overruns by modeling the buildings' obstacles and getting designs right the first time.

Technical details:

  • Semi-deterministic Dominant Path Model and empirical COST 231 Multi-Wall Model for wave propagation prediction included.

  • Prediction of Fieldstrength, Power, and Path Loss possible.

  • Import of 3D CAD files (AutoCAD) possible.

  • Accurate prediction results.

  • Compute throughput analysis based on the latest data air interfaces and modulation schemes.

  • Generate indoor propagation map interpolated from outdoor planning tools, walk tests or empirical measurements

  • Generate maximum achievable data rate maps, SNIR maps and Best Server maps
