Modeling of Scenario

The simulation scenario was modeled with a 3D vector database of the buildings and the underling digital terrain elevation database. The location of the base station, as well as the two trajectories of the receiver, which are taken into account for the comparison, are shown in the figure as well (click to enlarge).

Information about Measurements

The MIMO measurement campaign was performed by the Institute of Information Technology of the University of Technology Ilmenau, in July 2008. The measurements were done in the framework of a COST project, where the city center of Ilmenau is used as a reference scenario for the development and validation of MIMO channel models. The measurement campaign focused on gathering realistic channel data in an urban macro cell environment in the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) frequency band. Channel sounding was performed for three base stations and one relay station on 22 receiver trajectories distributed all over the city center of Ilmenau.

Comparison of Measurement Data with Prediction Results

For comparison of measurement and prediction data, a 2x2 subset of the measured channel data was used. The wave propagation simulations have been performed with the Intelligent Ray Tracing Model (IRT), using the 3D model of Ilmenau city center shown in the figure above. The following graphs show the comparison between measurement (blue curves) and prediction (red curves) of different channel parameters along the two receiver trajectories.
